Student Governance

The Quad Board the collective name for the four arms of undergraduate student governance in Penn Engineering. Together, these student-led organizations oversee programming, funding, and advocacy that enhance student life experiences and build a welcoming, supportive community.

ESAC (Engineering Student Activities Council)

  • Serves as the umbrella organization for all undergraduate engineering student groups.
  • Coordinates funding, event logistics, and acts as a liaison between clubs, administration, and SEAS leadership.
  • Plans large-scale social events such as E-Day, E-Formal, etc.

EDAB (Engineering Dean’s Advisory Board)

  • Works directly with staff and faculty to implement initiatives that enrich the learning and welfare of Penn Engineering undergraduates.
  • Advise on policy and design programming to improve Penn Engineering.
  • Seeks input from all student levels and faculty to inform administrative decision-making.

PEC (Penn Engineering Council)

  • Acts as the professional development, academic mentorship, and travel-funding arm of the Quad Board.
  • Sponsors events such as faculty-student coffee chats, career panels, and professional development workshops.
  • Eligible clubs and organizations may apply for funding or sponsorship opportunities.

USABE (Underrepresented Student Advisory Board in Engineering)

  • Promotes inclusion, representation, and community for underrepresented students in engineering.
  • Advised by the Cora Ingrum Center, USABE collaborates with identity-based and advocacy organizations.
  • Hosts community events, supports mentoring programs, and represents students in leadership discussions.

Join a Club/Attend an Event

  • Explore the ESAC Member Organizations directory for current clubs and contact information.
  • Attend the Engineering Student Activities Fair (ESAF) each Fall and Spring to meet club representatives and learn how to get involved.
  • Reach out to club leaders or ESAC for guidance on joining.

Start a New Club

  • All students are welcome to start a new club during the open club registration window(s). Generally, ESAC hears new club applications in October of each year.
  • Once recognized, your club becomes eligible for funding, event support, and official publicity through SEAS.
  • ESAC works closely with (SAC) Student Allocations Commission to ensure all ESAC clubs are also registered with SAC. [add link]

  • Event Support & Space: With ESAC recognition, clubs can request to use space in Penn Engineering on this website.
  • Funding Guidelines: With ESAC recognition, clubs have access to some ESAC funding and other financial management support from Penn Engineering.
